„Go Rangers!“Dear Mr. Lüblinghoff, thank you for your very kind letter of introduction. Based on your description, your city sounds like a wonderful place to visit—and live! We are interested in getting an exchange started. We would love to get the ball rolling by having student-visitors stay with us in Ojai. Late September is a great time to be in American schools because it is during our (American) football season, and each high school has a team. The games represent a great “slice of life” of our culture, especially for young people. You may not understand all the nuances of the game, but the spectacle is a lot of fun. I think your students would really enjoy it. I’m sure you have done a little homework on the city of Ojai specifically and Southern California in general. There really is a lot to do here, and the weather this time of year is perfect, although it CAN get a little warm 95º f during the days. Fortunately, we live 20 minutes from the coast, and some beautiful beaches. And even though Ojai is a small, semi-rural town, Los Angeles is less than two hours away: Hollywood, baseball, muesums, etc. And Santa Barbara is even closer. We could certainly fill up an itinerary! I forsee a greater potential for success if students from Germany were to come here first. I think we could build some enthusiasm for greater participation from our students that way. I hope that is agreeable to you. In any case, I look forward to working out the logistics with you and your instructional team. Thank you for your interest in establishing a positive bond between two cultures! We are Nordhoff High School, and we are the Rangers (Every school has a nickname, like the Pirates, the Wildcats, etc., and school colors)! So anyway, in our school colors, “Go Rangers!” |
